digitalmars.D.announce - dsource hardware upgrade

reply Brad Anderson <brad dsource.org> writes:
I guess we can call it a hardware upgrade. The motherboard is having some
"issues" right now, so I'll put some positive spin on it and throw in a memory
upgrade, too.

I don't know when it will be back, but hopefully the new equipment will be
available and installed this evening.

Sorry for the inconvenience...

Thanks for your great services to the D community.
I'm happy to do it, and will continue to endeavor to make it more reliable than it's been in recent months. Especially when 1.1.07 is coming. BA

Don't apologize. You give us this valuable resource, with all costs from your own pocket, and then apologize to us for doing what you must to make it even better? Doesn't make sense. :) Thank you, Brad. (Don't think I'd ever bothered to say that before. So I /do/ apologize.) -- Chris Nicholson-Sauls

Hi Brad,
I'll rent a dedicated root server until the end of this year mostly
because I need a remote database server (PostGreSQL, Hyperfile)

I am willing to share this Server with the D community in case that
somebody interested. /share means 50%

Technical info : http://www.hetzner.de/rootserver_en.html *See DS 3000*

Thanks for the offer. However, I have a more permanent hosting arrangement in place, and will be moving to that environment before the end of the year (hopefully). BA

An update: My friend in Houston (where the server is located) attempted to replace the failed motherboard with a new one, and found the memory the store recommended with the purchase was the wrong kind. He will attempt to fix this today. After the end of the year, I will also be on-board with setting up some mirrors so the content is not too far out of reach. BA

That's good news. Thanks for all the hard work Brad. Sorry to hear the old mobo is no more - she was a good server, and will be missed. As far as mirrors go, would these be sourceforge-style mirrors for downloads? I think just a download/release annex of some kind would be killer for ironing out useage and downtime problems. :) -- - EricAnderton at yahoo

Probably at first. Although for more frequently-accessed projects, a SVN mirror may make sense as well, esp. if /trunk is fairly active. BA

The server is back up and running. DNS servers should be propagating the changes over the next few hours. If you're impatient, edit your hosts file: 76.17.85.65 (www|svn).dsource.org And don't just type the IP address into a browser - it won't work, because I use virtual hosts. Enjoy... BA
