ignornant folks like me. Most people here seem to have a deeper
knowledge of PCs that I do, and I cant understand anyones

You only need 2.01.  The D-source download is the source code for Empire 
ported to the D Programming Language.

Graphical mode runs in a window and actually has bitmapped graphics. 
Text mode runs in a console window and uses ASCII for the game 
representation.

Once the game starts, you can move your armies via ASDF.  Many of the 
remaining commands are listed in the Cmd menu.

I'm not sure.  But all you should need is "Empire 2.01  for graphical 
mode Windows XP, 2000, NT, 98, and 95."

It does not require compilation but does need ansi.sys to switch
to graphics mode.
