Sean, Thank you very much for your reply (my sons name is sean too, but hes not much help, lol). I have windows XP, and I assume I need to use the 2.01 and D-source. I dont understand what is meant by "text mode" or "graphical mode", "C" source, or "D" source. Also, the 2.01 I tried, the demo will work, and I can get the map to come up, but I can nnot get that very firsy move to work. I see something about "command prompt" but what is that?. I'm having problems keeping commodores in stock that work. Each time something breaks (these things are really old) I have to go to ebay and get another floppy drive, keyboard, or joystick. I seem to keep getting defective units, or units that the ebau sellers take 1 month to ship. I'm in real need of my empire fix, and getting frustrated checking the mail to see if my latest C-64 part has arrived. Is thier any place I can go and get instructions for just what I need to download for my windows XP, with terms written for PC ignornant folks like me. Most people here seem to have a deeper knowledge of PCs that I do, and I cant understand anyones instructions.

The D-source download is the source code for Empire ported to the D Programming Language.I dont understand what is meant by "text mode" or "graphical mode", "C" source, or "D" source.Graphical mode runs in a window and actually has bitmapped graphics. Text mode runs in a console window and uses ASCII for the game representation. Also, the 2.01 I tried, the demo will work, and I can get the map to come up, but I can nnot get that very firsy move to work. I see something about "command prompt" but what is that?.Once the game starts, you can move your armies via ASDF. Many of the remaining commands are listed in the Cmd menu.Is thier any place I can go and get instructions for just what I need to download for my windows XP, with terms written for PC ignornant folks like me. Most people here seem to have a deeper knowledge of PCs that I do, and I cant understand anyones instructions.I'm not sure. But all you should need is "Empire 2.01 for graphical mode Windows XP, 2000, NT, 98, and 95." Sean

I have an old version of teh empire I used to play on a Vax. It seems to be as near as can be to the original. It does not require compilation but does need ansi.sys to switch to graphics mode.
