I'd guess W. wants DWT ported to linux and mac around the time D 1.0 comes out, so he can use DWT as a marketing tool for D 1.0. How do you think having version 1.0 before embracing a standard D GUI will help?

Just a mindset thing. The actual version or release number of D isn't really the issue. Instead I see the prioritization of the effort still to go to make D a stable and workable platform for such a GUI library. In other words, I think that there are lot's of other issues to be addressed *before* Walter's time is taken up with this issue. -- Derek (skype: derek.j.parnell) Melbourne, Australia "Down with mediocracy!" 7/02/2006 12:10:44 PM

I suspect Walter's stamp of approval is mostly a way to focus "our" effort on a common goal moreso than anything else. Since DWT likely doesn't require any additional language support, there's no need for Walter's involvement beyond some occasional steering. Unless perhaps he has a Java front-end sitting around that he wants to devote to the automated translation effort. Sean

The idea isn't to take up my time, I won't be working on DWT. The idea is to give encouragement to those already hard at work on DWT, and to hopefully rally others to help them finish.

This is a good thing. I will eventually have plenty of things to discuss. Please don't expect anything for the next few days... I'm away for a bit. Thank you for setting this group up. It should help the endeavor. -JJR

Now that I think about it .. shouldn't it be a general gui NG instead? Since we didn't decide yet to endrose any specific GUI?

Maybe if you ask nicely, Walter will create a digitalmars.D.* 'group for your GUI library. But who knows? But yes, a digitalmars.D.gui 'group would be useful, as it would provide a place for: - general discussion of GUI programming - comparisons of GUI libraries - discussion of how to implement GUI features in a library - discussion on specific GUI libraries Stewart. -- -----BEGIN GEEK CODE BLOCK----- Version: 3.1 GCS/M d- s:- C++ a->--- UB P+ L E W++ N+++ o K- w++ O? Please keep replies on the 'group where everyone may benefit.

Mr. Bright,
than it would be fair if You setup digitalmars.D.dfl, digitalmars.D.minwin,
digitalmars.D.wxd and digitalmars.D.dui newsgroups as those are serious
competition to DWT.
I personally prefer MinWin over all others... Now I feel like DWT is
considered like "preferred" D GUI, which is far from true.

Kind regards

Dejan
