Since no response on the stream, can we please get the static sorted out?

This link plays something at the moment but part of the YouTube page displays a 500 error (including an attempt at being cute by referencing monkeys): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HvqsUO77FGI Ali

It looks like that's not available on their channel any more. It looks like I'm just lucky to have posted the link above to the Turkish forum, where I copied it back. Do others know the link to the first 3 talks? Ali

There was some talk during the stream of them being lost due to a LAN failure. I'm not sure if that's all 3 talks or just the first.

As I understand it, they were not recording but relying on YouTube to save the stream. For whatever reason, that didn’t work out. They wrote that they would be trying to recover the stream but it might well be lost. I think you should talk to them and explain what an asset these recordings are to dlang, and that we cannot let them be jeopardised by WiFi outages.

+1. I was expecting to watch Walter's presentation, and now I would say this is a big failure for them. Come on, this not a new event! In this day and age with all the cameras around us, if they really lost any content they should stop doing this. Sorry if I'm too harsh, but this is totally unacceptable.

Don't worry, you didn't miss much. You're better off just reading his blog post, as Walter keeps his keynotes light on tech: https://dlang.org/blog/2017/08/23/d-as-a-better-c/ While the post covers slightly different material, it gives the idea. I believe the lost video is only from the morning of the first day. Andrei's talk may simply not be accessible in the archived livestream anymore, as Nemenja says, but there's no indication that it was lost.

It's not a problem. Walter can redo the talk from his basement and upload it to youtube.

Well, If he is able to reproduce the look and feel from the original with all the jokes etc. I can accept that.

Will the videos of the talks etc. be available online later? As Bastiaan Veelo wrote it appears that something went wrong with the youtube recordings. Hope this gets resolved and at least the upcoming talks, if not all, will be available.

Did the equipment only support live streaming OR recording or what was going on? Because one gets these 128 GB SD cards for 40=E2=82=AC and they are reusable. --=20 Marco

I gave the same talk again at Code Europe in Krakow. The video for that should appear on youtube in a month. This isn't the only time videos of my talks (and others) have been lost due to technical problems or simple screwups. I'm tired of this happening. Next DConf we should have a backup camera sitting on a table.

I have used more expensive cameras while I was at high school than the ones used at DConf. Can't we get an actually decent company to do recordings+streaming? Surely we can.

One hopes that the contract with the respective company providing A/V services would include penalties for that case (which could be funnelled into the foundation funds). — David

It's working for me: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0UZuRNujLGQ Maybe youtube just needed some time after the original stream ended before it could do replays of the whole thing.
