digitalmars.D.announce - Ancient dmd versions

reply Walter Bright <newshound1 digitalmars.com> writes:
Ok, I'm ashamed to say I have backups of the source, but for some of the
old dmd zip files, can't find a copy amid my disorganized, huge pile of
CD backups. For archival purposes, if any of you have the following
original dmd zips, please email me a copy:

dmdalpha5.zip
dmdalpha6.zip
dmdalpha8 through 18.zip
dmd20 through dmd75.zip
dmd77 through 101.zip

I'll put any we find up on the digitalmars ftp site.

While I don't have the zip files, I did dig up the change log history from www.archive.org (I love that site) and pieced it together here: http://www.puremagic.com/~braddr/d/changelog.txt It has 0.43 as the oldest entry and I copied up through 0.101. Prior to 0.43 it doesn't look like you kept a changelog on the website. It also looks like you used just 'dmd.zip' or 'dmdalpha.zip' for the links for a long time in there. Not quite the archives we're looking for, but something worth preserving anyway. Later, Brad

I also have some old DMD folders, which I could zip up and send (although you'd have to dif those to figure out if there are any of my own files in there). -Joel

Unzip dmd.exe and run it. The 2004-2005 ones are probably in the range he wanted (20 through 101). -- Remove ".doesnotlike.spam" from the mail address.

The 2004 ones are likely candidates (0.101 came out Aug 30, 2004). If you don't want to bother figuring out what they are, just email them to me and I'll figure it out. To find out the versions of your old dmd folders, just run \dmd\bin\dmd, and it'll tell you the version.

Does someone have a public web-repository that I can upload these too. Its a PIA to break these up into small enough pieces and send them individually.

Hay brad can u send me the details? -Joel
Not via a post to the newsgroup / mailing list. Try using my email address, ie the 'from' not the 'reply-to'. I'd have sent this direct to you rather than the newgroup, except your 'from' address is bogus. Later, Brad

It looks like dmdalpha5 and 6 might never have been publicly released. From the news archives here: http://www.digitalmars.com/d/archives/index2001.html dmdalpha4 was released on dec 23 2001, and the next one announced was dmdalpha7 on the 28th. There might have been one sent to specific people, possibly Pavel Minayev who looks like the primary (though not only) user at the time. I'll have a changelog file for all the releases later today for the zip files to be linked from. Later, Brad
