I'd be fine with front/back. Not quite as nice as first/last, but it's better than head/toe.

long. I'm the kind of programmer that lines up all my variable  
declerations, etc. Porbably because I do some design work now and then as

Pick one and stick with it. That is all I would suggest. If someone takes major offense to it, they could alias it to their preference, right? I've been dabbling with Objective-C while waiting for the DMD/GDC/LDC thunking to end, so my D is getting slightly rusty.

Not really, because these names will be used as members of hundreds of different user-created range structs. There's no way to make a generic alias for a member of even one struct let alone hundreds of different ones. --bb

Not really, because these names will be used as members of hundreds of different user-created range structs. There's no way to make a generic alias for a member of even one struct let alone hundreds of different ones.

Just thinking about what will happen when we get containers integrating these kind of ranges. Like a deque. With current nomenclature we might end up with names like popHead and popToe. Both sound kinda... gross. --bb
