release of DMD's first version as 2001-12-08. The spec was first announced
2001-08-13, again on the D newsgroup.

In general you can go through the whole history of D yourself by just browsing
the newsgroups here. If you want to learn absolutely everything, there's
probably been some talk over at comp.lang.c++(.moderated) which you can find at
Google Groups. There's actually very little D-related which can't be found on
either these or the comp.lang.c++ newsgroups.
