To make the community sure, you should state that if at any time you chease support for the D reference implementation, it will be released under the public domain. It's important because life is complicated, and one couldn't know what can eventually happen. For example, you can loose interest in D, having developed a new visual 3D programming language. Or you are forced to make a living selling MS software (or, lastly, see http://www.uslegalforms.com/last_will_and_testament.htm :-). Ciao

I'd do it if I could, but I cannot. The best I can do is what is done now - the front end source, and all the library is GPL'd or freely usable. I do my best to encourage the ongoing development of the gnu back end for D.

please use the artistic or BSD license or LGPL for the library, GPL sucks for commercial vendors and companies actually trying to make a profit so their programmers can get paid (even the ones left in the western countries)

I honestly doubt even Walter up and leaving would be enough to kill D at this stage of the game. There is a currently existing compiler whose source has been partially released and a GCC frontend project that's making wonderful progress. And that's not even taking all the people who just want to write D into account. -- andy

People are ready to take chances in life . If not for chances , Walter wouldn't invest in "D" so much as quited in the interduction for "D" "who are you to make a new language" looks he's smarter then that, there is nothing to loose exept a bit of time and byte of code, how much time does an average person wash down in life ? Lets not talk about the fact on the investment from my side arranging leagel matters , hardware etc.
Is this somebody that's well known for joint ventures or business plans?
Well if $teve jobs and bill gate$ would do this kind of calculations they would probebly still sit and write code and all of us would use command line or maybe even punchcards. Thats why I'm a business man and not a programer. (though I like to play around coding but not to make a living off it.)

You got a good point, but life is gamble , we look for the 10% chance of loosing and the 90% chance of gaining. Any thing that doesn't have a chance to loose doesn't have capability to win.

No money to be invested , just time. . Every body is a partner to a certain percent. No body collects money , the company does, every partner has the right to follow up on transactions. And by the way the same applies to me relying on who ever joins, but back to the above statement. And again life is a gamble.

Besides the point that "D" will gain popularity (hopfuly this thing would take off) Walter wouldn't be left it the cold. And by the way when did any programer speak or deal with Att Labs , Karnegie , Compaq or all other language developers?
