 Hi.

I wrote down a few things I am doing for covid preparedness and
thought I should share them here. It was written hurriedly for
internal use, but maybe it could be interesting to others.

 PRs welcomed.

Up. I've had medium COVID-19 (12 days of fever/diarrhea/asnomia/tiredness/short-breathness/cough without grave symptoms) and the following tips came up. **I'm not a doctor**, these are only my personal feelings about this. - Paracetamol is your friend to combat the ineffective fever. It seemed to be it was useful to take a relatively smaller dose than wanted in order to avoid too much oscillation in your temperature (that woul cause sweating and increased heart-rate). OTOH, try not to avoid taking it, it's literally the only thing you have. - I ended up taking a multivitamin because I figured I didn't know what I was missing. I did take vit C, vit D, zinc, magnesium, L-carnitin otherwise. I don't know what helped. - It seems to me there is a feedback from your thoughts to the immune system. Only after I thought deeply about _what_ my immune system (and: should it?) was fighting the fever started to diminish. I had a similar exeperience with an allergic reaction, where just thinking about it (in a CBT-style) made the reaction lesser. - as kitsch as it may sound, try to enumerate reasons to live and what you want to do _after_ covid.

I'm glad you pulled through ok. I'd like everyone in the D community to get fully vaccinated. I received my second shot a few days ago, getting them as soon as I was eligible. At least in the US, we've reached the point where you can walk in without an appointment and get vaccinated. Please don't delay. I'm looking forward to the day we can have an in-person conference again!

I got my second shot a month ago. Life has improved dramatically with that behind me.

 conference again!
It feels incredible to meet other vaccinated people indoors without wearing masks.

I think the vaccine gives 90% protection. It does not fully protect individuals, but the community. It is a dampening factor (if you think in terms of signals, it makes the signal fade out).

You're correct. In the US, though, the CDC says it's okay to meet with other fully vaccinated people inside your house without wearing masks. https://www.cdc.gov/media/releases/2021/p0308-vaccinated-guidelines.html I wear a mask in public and at work (and wouldn't have a choice in the matter anyway since there's a mask mandate everywhere I go).

Maybe it is, maybe it isn't. Maybe it is until a mutation hits us. I think we just have to be mindful about what we say in public as it is in human nature to "positively over-interpret" viewpoints that validates what we wish to be true. I think the reasons for why Norway has 139 deaths per million and Sweden has 1394 deaths per million to some degree is due to the unusual strong words our prime minister used in march last year, whereas the Swedish politicians were more mellow and let the health professionals take the scene. The formal policies haven't been all that different I think, so I think it has something to do with what people "want to believe". But now that the elderly are getting vaccines I suspect that some younger Norwegians are becoming impatient (or are looking for parties, by tradition after high school there are big gatherings with "reckless behaviour" that many kids look forward to, involving acting out, lots of alcohol, and driving around in painted busses loaded with mega-speakers and aggregates), after all if granny's got a vaccine then there is nothing to worry about? Well, we are about to find out... May it is. Exams and a strong the-party-of-your-life tradition among youngsters...

Thanks! Getting vaccinated is one heck of a good idea, I must say.

I think I have a while longer to wait unfortunately, based on the current UK plan at least.

That's terrible. I'm afraid of long-covid as much as the mortality of it. In some reading about it, it seems that getting the vaccination provides better long term immunity against Covid even if previously having recovered from Covid. Maybe getting the vaccine will help?

I am afraid no. A lot of people who vaccinated with SputnikV have same problems. Do not know about another vaccines.
